Track & Field Spikes
Our Sprint Elite track spikes are built for explosive acceleration and maximum power transfer on the straightaway. Engineered with a rigid 6-spike forefoot plate and breathable synthetic mesh upper, these spikes deliver the responsiveness sprinters need from the blocks to the finish line.
Designed for 100m, 200m, and 400m events, the aggressive spike configuration grips synthetic and rubber tracks without sacrificing stride efficiency. Lightweight construction keeps you fast through every phase of your race.
Performance specs for competitive athletes

Spike Plate Configuration & Track Surface Compatibility
Each model in our Eastbay track spikes collection features spike plates engineered for specific event demands. The Sprint Elite’s 6-pin arrangement concentrates traction under the ball of the foot where sprinters generate maximum force, while the Distance Pro’s 4-pin layout balances grip with flexibility for mid-distance efficiency.
All our track spikes accept standard 1/4-inch threaded pyramid or needle spikes and perform optimally on synthetic Mondo, Beynon, and rubberized track surfaces. The included pyramid spikes work across most competition venues, while optional needle spikes (sold separately) offer enhanced penetration on softer surfaces. Our spike wrench fits all standard track spike configurations, making mid-meet adjustments quick and secure.

Upper Materials & Breathability Technology
Sprint-Specific Construction
Our Sprint Elite spikes utilize a single-layer synthetic mesh that maximizes breathability during anaerobic efforts. Reinforced TPU overlays at the toe and eyestays prevent material stretch during block starts and maximum acceleration phases, maintaining the precise fit sprinters require.
Distance Runner Ventilation
The Distance Pro features engineered mesh with strategically placed ventilation zones that channel airflow across the foot’s highest heat zones during sustained efforts. This targeted cooling helps regulate temperature during 10+ lap races when heat buildup impacts performance. The seamless interior construction eliminates traditional stitching that can create pressure points during extended wear.
Sizing & Fit Recommendations for Competition
Eastbay track spikes run true to your standard athletic shoe size, but we recommend sizing down a half size if you’re between sizes or prefer a race-tight fit. The snug fit typical of competition spikes ensures your foot doesn’t slide during acceleration or turns, maximizing energy transfer to the track surface.
Our asymmetrical lacing system on the Sprint Elite and Distance Pro models allows independent tension adjustment across the midfoot, accommodating both narrow and wide foot shapes without pressure points. Width options are available in select sizes for athletes requiring additional toe box room.

Track Spike Questions Answered
Sprint spikes like our Sprint Elite feature rigid plates with 6-8 pins concentrated under the forefoot for maximum traction during explosive acceleration. They have minimal to no heel cushioning since sprinters run entirely on their forefeet.
Distance spikes such as the Distance Pro use 4-6 pins with flexible plates and light midsole cushioning to reduce fatigue during races of 800m and longer. The added flexibility supports a more natural stride cycle over extended distances, while modest cushioning protects against repetitive impact without adding significant weight.
Yes, every pair of Eastbay track spikes includes a full set of replacement pyramid spikes and a spike wrench in the box. The Sprint Elite includes 6 replacements, Distance Pro includes 4, and Jump & Throw includes 5—matching the number of spike positions on each model.
We recommend keeping these replacements in your track bag as backups in case a spike loosens or breaks during competition. Additional replacement spikes in pyramid or needle configurations are available separately for purchase throughout the season.
Our Eastbay track spikes work on outdoor synthetic tracks like Mondo and Beynon surfaces with the included pyramid spikes. For indoor tracks, check your facility’s regulations—many indoor venues restrict spike length to 1/8 inch or require specific spike types to protect their surfaces.
We offer shorter replacement spikes designed specifically for indoor competition that thread into the same spike plates. Never wear outdoor spikes with full-length pins on indoor tracks, as this can damage the surface and may result in disqualification from competition.
Track spikes should fit snugger than your daily training shoes to prevent any foot movement inside the shoe during acceleration and turns. We recommend your normal athletic shoe size, but size down a half size if you’re between sizes or want a race-tight fit.
Your toes should reach close to the front of the toe box without cramping, and your heel should lock securely in place without slipping. The snug fit maximizes power transfer to the track—any excess space reduces efficiency and can cause blisters during hard efforts.
Replace pyramid spikes when the point shows visible wear or you notice reduced traction during workouts. Most competitive athletes replace spikes every 3-4 weeks of regular training, or before major championship meets to ensure maximum grip.
Check spike tightness before every session, as repeated impact gradually loosens pins even when properly installed. If a spike loosens during training, replace it immediately rather than re-tightening the worn pin—damaged threads won’t hold securely and can strip your spike plate.
All Eastbay track spikes meet NFHS (high school) and NCAA (college) regulations for track and field competition when equipped with standard 1/4-inch spikes. The included pyramid spikes comply with length restrictions at most venues.
Some championship meets specify maximum spike length (commonly 1/4 inch for most events, 1/2 inch for javelin). Always verify your specific meet’s equipment rules before competition, as regulations can vary by state association or conference.
Track spikes are designed exclusively for synthetic track surfaces and field event runways—do not wear them for cross country or road racing. The rigid plates and aggressive spike configuration that enhance track performance cause discomfort and potential injury on varied terrain or pavement.
For cross country, use dedicated XC spikes with more flexible plates and shorter pins designed for grass and dirt courses. Road races require standard running shoes with cushioned midsoles built for extended impact on hard surfaces.
